City of Bukoba Liaison
CITY OF BUKOBA LIAISON SERVICES
The Municipality of Bukoba is small, even by Tanzanian standards. It will be a long slog before it can turn into a business hub which can attract many investors, both internal and external. Being Kagera’s capital, BUDEFO thinks all Kagerans should join forces in bringing about its accelerated development. That’s why it has deemed it necessary to have a full-fledged Directorate to work hand in glove with municipal authorities to transform the place from a nondescript town into a metropolis humming with business activity.
Although the role of the Directorate is purely facilitative, we believe it can make a lot of difference in the entire development process of the municipality. For starters, the Directorate has been charged with the task of mobilizing investments from Kagerans living in the diaspora, and, by diaspora, we mean all those Kagerans living beyond Kagera’s borders. It is supposed to collect vital information like the availability of building plots and details about the entire process of acquiring an allocation. The idea is to ease the rigmarole and encourage them to invest. During implementation any bureaucratic headwinds will be brought to the attention of the Mayor who has shown willingness to work with BUDEFO.
BUDEFO is blessed with accomplished professionals in almost every field of human endeavour. We want the municipal authorities to tap into this human resource when conceiving and implementing their plans. Expertise is normally costly and the lack of is even costlier, but through this Directorate, professional Kagerans can be sourced to offer it for free, either physically or electronically. The Directorate will therefore maintain a database of such professionals so that they can easily be contacted whenever need arises.
The Directorate has also to work with the Directorate of Finance and Economic Empowerment together with the Regional authorities to entice foreign investors to come and invest in the Municipality. We believe that Bukoba’s geography as the centre of East African Community gives it a distinctive comparative advantage when it comes to investments and regional trade.
